Douglas Girard has been painting since the age of thirteen. Girard won many awards and competitions while attending the Pretoria School for Art, Ballet, Drama and Music in South Africa. In 1987 Girard started his freshman year at Chapman College, Orange CA on an Art Scholarship. The next year he was privileged to begin classes at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in California. He graduated with a BFA with Distinction in Illustration.

Girard recently won the "Best People in the Park" award in the Art for Alaska Parks competition in Anchorage. He now lives in Alaska, with his wife and two boys, where he paints the dramatic landscapes that surrounds his home .
