Jan Stitt About the Artist
Jan Sanders Stitt decided to sign her paintings RAVEN over thirty years ago. She never looked back and keeps painting wildly. Her connection to ravens began as she watched them play, dance, sing and enjoy life. She loves their wild character, stubbornness and creativity. Ravens are even a bit mysterious. She likes that. Most ravens don’t migrate and neither does she. The interior of Alaska is her home. Oil, acrylic and watercolor mediums fascinate this artist. She brushes on the pigment for the sheer beauty of color and texture of a brushstroke. Sharing her love of life with others adds to her impetus for painting. Jan says, "Knowing that my painting brings joy to people is a thrilling connection for me. I want to connect with the raven in all of us”. In the spirit of Impressionism, she uses no black pigment on her palette. Mixtures of purples, blues, deep reds, greens and orange make the dark values. She uses the contrast of warm and cool colors to express light, form and emotion.
